Some of our Limousine Experiences
I have to admit, I was the type of person who had never indulged in a limousine ride until just recently, and to be completely honest, it was out of desperation to get to the airport. But I realised whilst I was on my first journey in this manner, all by myself, in a beautiful, stately stretch Lincoln limousine, what an amazing experience it was, and just how much I had almost missed out on if I had never done it at all.
It wasn’t just about the journey itself one I had done many, many times, due to my regular overseas travelling requirements, it was something I was not expecting. It was a journey through a different perspective.
I wonder how many people have travelled on the airport bus which takes forever in stop start traffic to pick up all the others along the way, with no leg room to speak of, and nowhere to put your hand luggage except either in the isle or at your feet where there is no room afterwards to actually put your feet except on top of your overnight/laptop case. Of course, the Airport bus only commutes between the hours of about 6.00 am and 8.00pm (I think, but you are welcome to remind me, just so I can enjoy the pain of the frustration again, I mean, most international flights leave Melbourne are outside these hours). I could do a blog on how heinous a ride on the Airport bus if anyone wants, just post me….the title would read “cheap and nasty, are you really not worth it!”
Of course, one can drag in, under protest, family members to take you to the airport at 6.00am in the morning or 12.00 midnight, so you can feel appropriately guilty for messing up their lives. Or you can catch a Taxi which, in itself is about $120 (from where I live anyways). I could also do a blog about either of these two options I’m sure they would be equally as painful…..but moving on…..
After much anguish on my part, yet again, as to how I was going to get to the airport, my partner decided he would treat me to a limousine ride, and after considerable protest about the cost involved and the, what seemed to me to be ridiculous “overkill” of the journey of getting to the airport at 4.00am in the morning for a 6.00 am flight out of Melbourne, I conceded to his sweet gesture. I found out later that his “sweet gesture” was a desperate attempt to give himself a break from the routine anguish of dealing with me when it came to yet another trip to the airport, while he was stuck in America.
So, as many times before, there I was, waiting, with my heavy suitcase, plus my computer case ready to wrestle into the vehicle. Then something amazing happened, at 3.00am on the dot I had a knock at the front door which I opened to a Limousine Driver dressed in a suit and tie with a lovely smile and ready to take my luggage to the limousine.
This was my first realisation, well shock really – that this person had been hired to treat me in a respectful manner and help me enjoy my journey to my destination in a luxurious fashion. He wouldn’t hear of me carrying my own luggage to the limousine. So I dutifully waited for him to carry my bags whilst I did a last minute check on the property before leaving. I was then escorted to the limousine, had the door opened for me and was completely overawed with the beautiful leather interior with so many seats to choose from I got lost in the decision.
I finally decided on a seat at the back of the vehicle so I could enjoy the visual length of it as I looked forward towards the driver, the distance seemed to be a football field away.
As we drove for the 75 minutes to my destination of the Melbourne International Airport, It was like I was in slow motion. Everything I looked at out of the vehicle seemed different. The lights of the city were more beautiful, even the stop lights were a joy to sit at and wait in such comfort and luxury, no stress there. The drivers in the other cars on the road looked twice at, what now seemed to be MY limousine with interest and enjoyment because of it being, well, what it is, a limousine. I felt so special, almost like a movie star or corporate mogul who does it all the time. I completely became lost in the pleasure and enjoyment of the journey, almost forgetting the destination. I got to the stage where I didn’t want to actually reach my destination at all, savouring every minute I was on the road.
Unfortunately for me, the journey did have to end but not before I was given the complete pleasure of pulling up at the international drop off part of the airport, centre stage, and have the driver stop the limousine for all to see, get my luggage out of the boot and then open up the door for me disembark, just like movie star. I took a note to self that next time I indulge in such a pleasure I will dress in something more appropriate than comfortable pants and runners (eyes roll), as I didn’t quite look the part. I truly wasn’t expecting to feel quite so glamorous being dropped off at an airport. As well, I will try to make the journey in the middle of the day so hundreds of people can see me instead of the handful that were there at 4.00 am in the morning.
It was right then and there, from the door of my house to the kerbside of the international departure drop of at Tullamarine that I decided it was worth every cent paid for the limousine ride, and EVERYONE should have it on their bucket list of things to do in a lifetime.
Even more importantly, I decided that there was NO way I wasn’t going to do it again, and I would do everything in my power to NEVER have to ride the airport bus again for that same journey. There was just no comparison when It comes to the added value of a limousine ride to the airport.
The fascinating thing for me is that this is just my first time experience in a limousine. I know that there are so many reasons for deciding to take a limousine ride and so I have decided that I will research and blog about them. In fact, now I have had my first taste of a limo ride, I can think of sooooo many reasons to do it again. (smiles to self)
But, I would love to hear what others have to say about their experiences and what reasons they had in choosing to take a limousine journey. What funny things happened to you or your family and friends? or what discoveries did you have along the way that you didn’t expect? I’m sure there are so many funny or wonderful experiences others have had that this blog may have jolted the memory and enjoyment of all over again.
So feel free to share your own Limo Moment as I’m sure there must be 1,000s of them out there….
For me? I consider my job has been done for sending whoever is out there, interested in reading my blog, the Memo to put a Limousine ride at least once in your life on your own bucket list, and I know I can rest in the knowledge that I will not be the one blamed for not sending it!
