* If, like many of us, you work, then Mon-Fri workshops represent a difficulty in getting time off. More than likely you will be facing at least 2, if not 3 days in a row.
* With only twenty days annual leave, using half of that on training events often means losing out on family and vacation time.
* Training classes can ‘sell out’ fast and often end up larger than is ideal.
* Many trainees are trying to maintain a quick pace, while others are looking to take a more ‘steady’ pace and be allowed to set their own speed. This generates difficulty and tension in most cases.
* Tot up the cost of all the petrol, fares, parking, accommodation and food and you could be in for a major shock. Students mention extra costs of hundreds to thousands of pounds over time. Do the maths – and understand where they’re coming from.
* Maintaining the privacy of our training will be of paramount importance to a lot of attendees. Why would you want to throw away any job advancement, salary hikes or accomplishment with your current employer while you’re training. When your boss discovers you’ve committed to accreditation in another area entirely, how will they regard you?
* Asking questions in a class full of students sometimes makes us a little awkward. Have you ever left a question un-asked as you didn’t want to look foolish?
* When your work takes you away from home, it’s a fact of life that workshops can often become very hard to attend – but unfortunately, the fees were paid along with everything else at the start.

Don’t get hung-up, as can often be the case, on the training process. Training is not an end in itself; this is about gaining commercial employment. Stay focused on what it is you want to achieve. It’s a sad fact, but a great many students begin programs that seem marvellous in the sales literature, but which gets us a career that doesn’t fulfil at all. Try talking to typical college graduates to see what we mean.
Stay focused on where you want to go, and build your study action-plan from that – don’t do it the other way round. Stay on target and study for a career that will keep you happy for many years. Speak to a skilled advisor who has a commercial understanding of the realities faced in the industry, and could provide detailed descriptions of what you actually do in that role. Getting to the bottom of all this long before starting out on a learning programme will prevent a lot of wasted time and effort.
