Hydrocarbons are now one of the cheaper and most talked about alternative refrigerants in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. They are relatively new in the Australian industry and are quickly being adopted due to their energy efficiencies and cost. Hydrocarbons are Natural Refrigerants and NOT taxed by the recently introduced Australian Carbon Tax.

Hydrocarbons are one of the greatest refrigerants available. Yes, they are flammable, but if handled correctly and safely then the risks can be minimized. The Australian Standards have been designed to minimize all risks with all refrigerants and should be followed at all times. There is also a number of sensors, signage and other safety design parameters that can be used and applied to maintain safety.
Hydrocarbons are non-toxic, unlike most HFC and HCFC refrigerants that are being used and accidentally breathed in by refrigeration mechanics. All refrigerants have their problems and issues, therefore it is important to understand and minimize them.
As consumers begin to search for methods to reduce their power consumption, environmental impact and the cost of ongoing refrigerant servicing, hydrocarbons will gain even further popularity.
