What is Identity Theft?

Identity theft is on the rise and takes place when somebody assumes another person’s id for personal obtain.
Types of Identity theft incorporates:
Driver’s License
Health care
Employment SSA/IRS ( SSA-Social Security Administration/ IRS-Internal Income Company)
Financial
Character & Criminal
This is done without the other person’s knowledge or consent and the information is used to commit fraudulent acts i.e., to obtain credit, fraudulent accounts, security clearance.
Identification theft starts when an individual or business isn’t safe about protecting exclusive information. Unauthorized access to particular information is gold to a skilled id thief. Identity thieves have experience, skill, knowledge, and know all the tricks of the trade.
Common ways Identity Theft Happens:
Identity thieves use a variety of methods to steal your exclusive information. Including:
Phishing- They will disguise themselves as monetary institution or company and will usually do this via the internet or by telephone. Their goal is to get you to reveal your financial/banking or individual information.

Hacking – They hack into your email or other online accounts to access your personalized information or into a company’s database to access its records

Dumpster Diving- The thieves will rummage through your trash in hopes of finding old bills or personal documents containing your personalized information.

Skimming- They steal your credit/debit card information when your card is processed. This device stores your credit/debit card info when the card is swiped.

Change of Address- They will complete a change of address form and have your mail sent to one more address just to obtain personalized information.

“Old- Fashion” Stealing- This art of stealing is the oldest tactic known. They steal purses, wallets, mail, particular records, pre-approved credit card offers, tax information, and much more. They steal personnel records form their employers or bribe employees who
have access.

Pretexting- The use of false pretenses in order to gather information from banks/financial institutions, employers, telephone companies, and many other sources.

The biggest reason for id theft is fraud.
This includes:
Bank fraud-
Establishing bank accounts in one more person’s name in order to obtain credit.
Create counterfeit checks using your personalized information.
Opening up particular loans/borrowing money in a further person’s name.
Credit card fraud-
Establishing new accounts in a further person’s name.
Phone or utilities fraud-
In order to establish support in a different person’s name.
IRS fraud-
For the purpose of accessing someone else’s tax refunds.
Other fraud-
Identification clearance for purposes of obtaining a job or social security card.

Unfortunately, most people learn these things once they apply for a loan; receive bills from collection agencies/bank institutions or due to an arrest for a crime they didn’t commit. They may even use your information during an arrest which can lead to future legal trouble for the victim.
What to do if you’re a victim of Id theft? Contact your bank, credit agencies, loan institutions, and police.
