Ridge Racer is a classic racing series by Namco, and it incorporates an arcade racing feel with a Gran Turismo feel. It has wonderful driving looks and cars that appear realistic, even though incorporating that arcade really feel when driving.
Ridge Racer was a wonderful racing game when it launched with the PSP in North America, and I nevertheless appreciate taking it out to play. Ridge Racer is possibly my preferred racing game on the PSP subsequent to Burnout. While Burnout came out later, and it had far more of an arcade intense really feel to it. I feel Namco was searching for far more of a realistic game, but the arcade feel to it tends to make it actually fun.
The game can be played in tour mode (career mode) single race, time attack, or ad-hoc multiplayer (eight players max). The tour mode is easy and demands no information of the game. You just have to comprehensive various sets of races (typically about 3 races in a set), and at the end of each and every race, you normally unlock a course or an auto. Whilst games like these sometimes fail simply because there is almost no point to the game, it is ok for this game, simply because it was created to be an arcade racer.
The controls are extremely easy, and they are what you would anticipate from a normal PS2 or PS3 racing button layout. X is accelerate, ? is brake, and R is nitrous. This game wasnt meant for graphics even though, but the reduce-scenes and intro are genuinely excellent if you want to look for some sweet graphics. Back when this game was launched, I would have given this games graphics an particularly high score, but now they are average, so I give it a 9./10. I know Namco couldnt do something about the graphics after the release, but compared to PSP games now, its typical-excellent.
Sound:
The capacity to choose your song just before a race (not from your memory stick even though) was a cool thought, and the overall engine sounds and other items like that are great. Not to mention that mysterious guy who is constantly telling you, You can pass him! or Hey! Watch where you are driving! The sound is great, but I think they could have offered other sorts of music in the game apart from techno/disco music. The music is great for racing though. Overall I give the sound a 9.five/ten, even though Ill never listen to techno.
This was a wonderful game which I rented from blockbuster shortly immediately after I got my PSP back in 2005. I liked it so a lot that I decided to go back lately and rent it once more. I have practically completed the game, and it is quite enjoyable. Ridge Racer is a wonderful game, but you really should rent it very first.
