If you are planning on a really remote and exotic trip of a lifetime, consider purchasing an insurance that will cover emergency evacuation, rescuing and search. The farther from civilization you plan to be, the more grateful you will be to have this type of insurance.

When traveling with a dog, remember that most pet supplies are better purchased at your destination. For example, unless your dog is on a special diet, buying a bag of dog food when you arrive is easier than attempting to transport it. Bowls and other supplies are the same way.

You can never be sure how easy it will be for someone to contact you through your cell on a trip which means it is a good idea to leave a detailed list of your plans with a neighbor or friend. This allows them to attempt contacting you at a specific location in the event there is an emergency at home.

If you can choose between different flights, look for a 767. These planes do not have their seats configured like other planes: there are fewer middle seats, which are extremely uncomfortable. This could increase your chances of getting a more comfortable seat without spending too much money on your fare.

Print out directions and confirmation numbers ahead of time when you are traveling. If you have a smart phone, you can save these important pieces of information in a file in your phone for easy access later. You will be much more at ease if you know ahead of time how and where to find your important information when you need it.

Roll your clothes when packing your bags for a trip. Rolling your clothes up tightly actually saves a great deal of space when packing. Just make sure you begin packing, at least, several days before you need to have all your luggage ready. Rushing leads to very inefficient packing.

Count doors before you count sheep. When you arrive at your hotel, count the number of doors between your room and the stairs. In case of a fire with heavy smoke, you will be able to feel along the wall and know when you’ve reached the exit. This most likely will not happen, but, as always, you’re better safe than sorry.

When traveling by car, make sure to pack a first-aid kit, flares, extra food, water and a flashlight. If your car happens to break down in a remote location and it takes time for help to come, at least you will have the necessary equipment to survive on.

Before you arrive at your travel destination, search the internet to find a blogger who posts about what’s happening in this city. Take the time to email the blogger and ask for his or her recommendations about where you should go. This is a great way to get the inside scoop on your vacation spot.
