I was forwarded a Small Business Plan from an Investment Capital principal for whom I perform consulting services this week. That man had read the elevator pitch for the merchandise and had original interest in the idea. He requested that I review the document in detail and level up the tips that will be of much, or of no interest to his firm and make a recommendation as to the feasibility of the project. The plan was focused on a capital effort for a new line of cell phone accessories. The style and early phase real performance was in good order and appears to be to own much upside potential. The commercial appeal of the products and services was obvious and there seemed to be a good Unique Trying to sell Proposition designed for the taking when all aspects of the plan might be executed properly.Something vexed me, however, when I started to re-read and markup the Company Plan. I was uneasy with terms which were used to spell it out the type of goods. And, since I became diverted by the syntax and phrasing I was reading, I begun to question the plan’s assumptions much more critically.Words matter and they could be helpful, or harmful in any circumstance, whether in life, romantically, or professionally running a business. In this case the conditions used to spell it out what seemed like a good opportunity for Venture Capital expense put a cloud within the enterprise in my mind.A word that is an adverse in many business contexts is “cheap.” Low priced symbolizes inferior. Low priced means improperly made. The word inexpensive was used numerous times in the Business Enterprise Plan I was researching. A much better term than cheap is inexpensive, or inexpensive. Another word with luggage is “buy.” It is always deemed better to produce a purchase than to get a product or service.”Offer” is really a better phrase choice than “sell.” The 40 foot Hatteras Yacht emerges at $75,000 is indeed much more resonant to the ear and eye than the 75 foot Hatteras Yacht is available at $75,000. People like to purchase. They resent being sold. There are numerous types of words that may be substituted for conditions such as inexpensive, market, or buy and hence confer a far more optimistic commercial experience. The way in which words are utilized is indicative of the degree of professionalism that a party brings to a transaction.Often, due to length, or time constraints, or actively located professional barriers, the 2 or more parties taking part in company collaborations do not actually meet, at least initially. Words utilized in e-mails, phone calls, Business Plans or communication are all that each party has to just take the measure of each other. Choose words carefully. They are able to make, or break, your opportunity.
