One bad accident can cost somebody their life and workplace protection is a large concern, trigger huge harm and/or cost the company or firm vast amounts. It’s for this reason that many businesses have instituted mandatory and random drug testing, as a deterrent to individuals using illegal drugs that could influence their view or awareness of detail when running equipment or doing dangerous tasks.The unions and the ACLU desire to stop the mandatory drug testing calling it degrading, insulting, and unfair. Still, others want to legalize illegal drug use, hence, drug testing is not any longer a feasible reason for letting someone go or shooting them. Still, this suggests the question, what about office safety?My thinking is that the federal government should not dictate if that employer feels they have to for security, running their businesses or predicated on risk, if the employer does tests or not. Remember business insurance is expensive and worker’s compensation is through the roof already. An accident on the job, one big one, as a result of druggie worker, could cost the company millions in lawsuits and improve worker’s compensation 25% on that company, getting them out of business, and everybody loses their jobs.All they are cultural concerns and philosophical arguments until we have employees taking their swallowed minds and bodies to function, where “safety is job one” because when anything goes wrong ultimately it really is the boss who eventually ends up footing the bill. A standard sense method needs to be looked at here, and if the employees believe these tests are too intrusive, well they can always obtain a job someplace else, as they’re liberated to work anywhere they choose.
