Child Behavior: Behavior Problems In Children

If you have a toddler, aged 2-4 years, you may wonder how it got to the point where you found yourself enslaved to a person one-third your size. For some children the terrible twos and beyond’ phase only consists of mischievous curiosity, and a few incidents of stubborn refusal to do as you ask. For other children, it may be a case of temper tantrums, hitting, biting, and bedtime hysteria. They appear to have no discipline whatsoever.

Family therapists and social work researchers are increasingly defining family problems in terms of a lack of involvement and support from fathers and are concerned with difficulties involved in having fathers take responsibility for the solution of family and child behaviour problems (Edgar and Glezer 1986) . Yet, a father accepting responsibility for behaviour problems is linked with positive outcomes.

Remember that children learn from their parents. Your child learns from that which you live and that which you teach them. You create the surroundings of your child and the results that stem from that surrounding. Anything that you wish to apply to your child you should also apply to yourself. Chose habits for yourself that you wish to instill in your children. Choose good habits for yourself and encourage them in your child, as eventually, your child will copy the habits they see in you. You can replace negative habits with positive habits.

There are various considerations that you need to consider when you want to teach the child tell time. You have to realize that it is a basic skill that he must have to be able to organize the things that he needs to do. Always have the patience in teaching him since it may take time before he will be able to understand the concept fully.

Punishment for misbehavior should not involve hitting the child. However, there are many other ways to get his/her attention and let him/her know that certain behaviors will not be tolerated. Time out is one of many methods. Another very good one, especially with older children, is suspension of privileges, such not allowing him/her to play video games or watch television.

You need not to forget the hour hand. But you need to realize that your child has to understand that there are 60 seconds in one minute and there are 60 minutes in one hour. This is a good starting point for him. Explain to him that the hour hand will move if the minute hand is able to finish one cycle.

Osteopath Harry Friedman also emphasizes that the first course of action should be to find the source of the problem. “I see a lot of neurodevelopmental things like seizure disorders, but a lot of what I see is just regular old kids that are having problems,” he says.

Hand-in-hand with nutrition is the contamination of food with pesticides and the residues of our mechanized lifestyle in our air, water, and food supply. A study of affluent kids in the San Francisco area in 2002 uncovered high levels of mercury from eating long-lived fish such as tuna, which resulted in behavior problems that were often being treated with ADHD drugs.

Keep an eye on the influence your child is receiving from its friends. But if you have a bad feeling, try to talk to your child before you call the offender’s parents and ask for a restraining order.

It is not good to scold or yell at your kids when they are wrong. If your child takes awhile to calm down after they get upset, use a time-out’.
