Growing Revenue, What to Do When Your Business is Experiencing a Summer Slump
Generally only businesses related to vacation and tourism receive a business increase in the warm months. Everyone else takes their vacation, cleans the office, and wastes time online waiting for business to pick up again. None of those are especially sound business development methods in St. Louis, MO!
Summer can, and should be, a time when business owners and managers prepare growth strategies for the remainder of the year, and handle tasks which have been put off when business was brisk.
Now’s the time to:
1. Rekindle the dead leads. Get in touch with prospects who expressed an interest in your item or service but didn’t follow through. They may find themselves with more time to consider the purchase or meet with you.
2. Write some appreciation notes. Talking to employees and clients should happen more often than just the holidays.
3. Update your Linked-in profile.
4. Look over marketing materials. Ask your team or a couple of business associates for suggestions and update your processes and materials to get them ready for the busier times ahead.
5. Type up articles that are related to your business. Submit an article a month for the next year to appropriate publications, whether local, trade, or on-line.
6. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce and offer to speak at an upcoming meeting. Next write up your speech and practice it so you are prepared when the time comes.
7. Check up on your online presence. Do you keep in touch with electronic newsletters, eblasts, or Twitter? Should you be? Drum up some research and take advantage of on-line marketing.
8. Keep track of your progress on your long term goals. Determine next steps to make sure you achieve results by year end. And if you are ahead of schedule, go ahead and produce some new goals!
9. Schedule a social event with your team or customers. While vacation schedules may not allow all to attend, a relaxed summer event is a great way to bond, discuss, and strengthen relationships. While you are at it, go ahead and plan your office holiday social event now, as well.
10. Continue your networking. While some formal groups stop meeting in the summer, get out of the workplace by scheduling one-on-one networking meetings (on the patio!)
Even if business slows down for you this summer, use your time well, prepare for development and you’ll reap the rewards of elevated income at the end of the year!
