I couple of years ago I went by way of somewhat of a depression. I guess that is fairly normal, but I ended up going to see a counselor to talk through my troubles. Getting a counselor myself, it felt sort of strange at the starting, but I did it anyway. Why? I guess due to the fact I am a firm believer that often healing comes only as we get outside of ourselves and share with others. Anyway, one of the first items my counselor recommended that I do was make a list of items that intrigued me and that I’d like to discover about. Ever since then, I have been working my way via my list. I guess it is sort of my life targets in a way. I’m presently operating on memorizing and getting able to write the Chinese characters.

Mastering how to write the Chinese characters was someplace in the middle of my list. I’m not positive what precisely inspired me to include it on my to-do list except that I’ve been to China after and I still can not get more than how stunning the written Chinese characters are. So their beauty intrigued me adequate to want to learn them. So last fall I enrolled myself in an introduction to Chinese class and began plugging away at studying the Chinese characters.

The Chinese characters have established to be as hard to master as they appear. I believed they would come effortlessly for me given that I have at least a little bit of artistic talent. But no. They didn’t. I have had to actually discipline myself and practice consistently to grasp even the most straightforward Chinese characters. Many friends have recommended that I just quit since they know that I don’t have any intention of ever understanding how to speak or communicate the language.

There is one thing in me that can not quit understanding the Chinese characters though. Perhaps it is simply because I am truly attempting to understand commitment to even small issues and due to the fact I am trying to accomplish all of my objectives. I just know that when my counselor suggested that operating towards objectives we care about can be genuinely healing for people, I took her words to heart and have identified that they are correct. I have discovered a fantastic quantity of healing by focusing in on the issues I want to see occur in my life. Even tiny items like studying to write the Chinese characters have taught me so significantly about myself.
