Location-Based Prospecting? Are Ad-Hoc Sales Calls Precious?

I have been fascinated about much of the publicity around Hoover’s Near Here presenting. Evidently it is an iPhone based program for a sales agent to find new leads close to them-wherever they may be. I’m certain this may be the first of many new services which is offered by organizations like Hoovers (In reality, LinkedIn and Tripit have been giving similar, but lower ability for quite a while ).I am fascinated about the products, but actually wonder if this could be the type of recruiting behavior you want to promote? The approach reminds me of these sales representatives who start off on the very first floor of a building, banging on every door in the building, looking for prospects. In fact the practice goes back to the door to door sales agent. Do not misunderstand me, in some cases these methods might be efficient. Moreover, I think Hoovers is a good support, though I question the real importance of this service. All you have to do is study Chapter 1 of Jill Konrath’s SNAP Trying to sell to understand the truth of customer’s lives today. Customers are too occupied, too time-poor to be troubled by sales representatives “dropping by.” Income success is driven by purposeful, worth creating meetings, dedicated to the customer’s priorities and fitting their time. It is vital that sales agents are focused and prepared in ending up in clients. Firing from the top just doesn’t reduce any more.So to it how helpful would be the location based recruiting methods? Do our sales people be really wanted by us to “squeeze” in meetings with clients, just because they “happened to stay the area?” Shouldn’t sales representatives, in reality, be performing a better job of organizing their time further in advance, establishing purposeful meetings with customers “in the area.” I can see these resources as giving good benefit included in the weekly planning process if used. Like, I’m likely to be in Manhattan in two weeks, I could easily get good benefit out of an instrument that might help me recognize leads I might see while I am in Manhattan-and I will maybe not fall in on them. But I will call them up in advance, established a, and make sure I’ve prepared for the meeting, generating sure both they and I are utilizing the time together as efficiently as possible.I do not believe in the random, just in time sales call. I really do not appreciate sales people dropping in on me, my knowledge is that consumers have the same as well. I think these spot based instruments offer great possible, but more as a tool than as a tool to fit in the ad hoc meeting. If a sales agent finds they’ve time, as opposed to random conferences, they’re possibly better served by planning and planning large impression meetings.Am I missing some thing or off base?
