No More Gold Watches

Aug 23, 2012 by colemanbro66

When people from my grandfather’s era retired after being with a company for decades they got gold watches. Gold watches no longer exist in terms of organizations are concerned. Now organizations hand out pink slips (a.k.a. their strolling papers) after 25 years of service. We’re surviving in an alternative world but it is humorous if you ask me in a way.Companies no more have loyalty to those workers that have been loyal to them for years and years of service. When it’s obvious that firms no longer care about their employees generally, it’s interesting to me when the administration of an organization gets annoyed if the employees are no longer loyal for them often. They still expect the employees to be loyal without giving it in exchange. The exact same applies for consumers. They get annoyed when a customer of 25 years leaves for a business because of a cheaper price.I have said in a previous article that I perform for Liberty Mutual Insurance. Since I’ve gotten in the office I am in today, that is Personal Sales, some very good employees have been seen by me often forced out the entranceway or forced into using demotions. The new management is available in and decides they want their particular people in place. They sometimes expel jobs to obtain some individuals out the door or they only “performance manage” them out the door.I am not singling out Liberty Mutual at all. Actually, I suspect other individuals are a whole lot worse since Liberty has historically been an extremely conservative business. Different more aggressive organizations are probably laying even more people off, or pressing more people out the gates so they can be replaced by them with “their” people who are younger and cheaper.I am also not saying that some of the older people don’t deserve to move on. Some individuals I’ve managed over the last year and a half in this office just do not desire to be here and they allow it to be obvious. They continue to do things just how it has been always done by them. They make little attempt to understand new systems and methods to steadfastly keep up with the changing business world and customer’s demands. These individuals are not the ones I am discussing in this essay. I’m talking about the people who are together with their sport, still building a major contribution to the company and they are only pushed out because management doesn’t like them.I feel Liberty Mutual is among the last companies that still features a large citizenry of employees who’ve worked their full career for the company. I also believe this isn’t likely to function as the case five or 10 years in the future. It is a disgrace that business is becoming therefore callous and does not worry about the employees any more.
