Learn to banish harsh and unfounded negative thoughts about other people. If you find a particularly nasty sentiment rising, stop it right there and force yourself to come up with at least two favorable or flattering things about the person or persons in question. Over time, regularly practicing this exercise shapes your emotions by immediately calling to mind the most positive aspects of both people and situations.

When you are ready to make your dream a reality, write it down. Put in words what exactly you want to achieve. Be very specific with your goals. Writing down your dreams and goals will help hold you accountable and is proven to help those actually achieve what they set out to achieve.

Make flashcards from your text’s glossary. Don’t cut the pages from your book! Photocopy each page. Carefully cut out each term and its definition and tape them to their respective sides of miniature flashcards. If you are careful you can often fold the definitions and term in such as way they fold right around the edge of the card.

It is important to feel like you have a purpose in life. You can do this by reaching out to others that need your help. It can help you to take your mind off of your own problems and help someone else through theirs. It also gives you a different way to look at things.

Laugh every day. Children laugh hundreds of times a day, but adults laugh, on average, less than 10 times. Laughing relaxes you and puts you in a positive frame of mind making it easier to deal with your day, so find a reason to laugh daily. You’ll relax your muscles and your spirit as well.

Refrain from drinking alcohol. You have probably heard that alcohol is a depressant. This is true. It can also interfere with any medications you might be taking. It can cause you to feel worse, become ill, or maybe even overdose. If you are feeling unhappy, it is always best to steer clear of alcoholic beverages.

In order to build your self-confidence you should try new things that are somewhat difficult. When you realize that you are capable of doing so many different things well it can help you to feel the confidence to do anything that you put your mind to if you only try.

To minimize your stress levels and frustration over things you cannot change, try to stop worrying. Worrying does little else other than tax our minds, spirits, and bodies. If you cannot actively change a situation, there is little worth in worrying about it excessively. We must learn to accept the things we cannot change!

Taking the time to learn about developing yourself is, in itself, a step forward in personal growth. Many people shirk help and advice in an effort to do it themselves, come what may. Use all the advice you can get and utilize it to make yourself grow as a person. You will thank yourself in the end.
