Shed Those Pounds With These Helpful Tips
Ease into regular exercise. Exercise is a habit that anyone can form. Rather than jumping right away into an exercise routine, ease into it by taking baby steps. Start with a commitment to just walking to the end of your driveway and back. Each day, try to add a little bit more to your routine. Regardless of how much you do, the most important part is doing it everyday.
Some people need an extra little kick to get them on a good weight loss plan. Right now, there is a show on television called The Biggest Loser. It is about overweight people who are trying to lose weight. If you are struggling, watch the show for inspiration and you may also learn some new tricks.
To lose weight in a healthy manner and boost your nutritional intake at the same time, eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as you can. The best ones to eat are those grown organically or, if you are handy with gardening, grown at home. For example, home-grown tomatoes are fresher and tend to taste better than those bought in grocery stores.
I worked with a slim fellow once who told me he only ate twice a day. He had a huge breakfast, a moderate lunch and no dinner at all. This sounds impossible for most of us to follow, but the logic is sound. Ideally, to lose weight, you should eat an enormous breakfast, a middle-sized lunch and a very light dinner. This is because taking your calories early in the day, gives you the most time to burn them off. Whereas, if you start noshing after you get home from work and continue until bedtime, your body will have no chance during your sleeping hours to metabolize what you’ve eaten.
To lose weight, stop thinking of food as “good” or “bad.” Food is a source of energy. Using food as a reward or a coping mechanism can cause you to overeat. It’s okay to enjoy your food, but try to only use it for its real purpose: providing your body with energy and nutrients.
Splitting your restaurant meal in half, reserving a portion to eat and a portion to take home with you, can help you stay on track with your weight loss plan. Remove all temptation to overeat by requesting that the waiter put half of your meal in a to-go container before he even serves you the meal.
To lose weight, get plenty of sleep! Studies have found that sleep deprivation can make you more likely to snack or overeat throughout the day. Avoid this pitfall by getting plenty of rest when you’re trying to lose weight. You’ll feel better if you’re rested and you won’t be as tempted to reach for sugary snacks.
When you are trying to lose weight and are visiting a food buffet, don’t go back for a second plate. Fill your first plate with fruits and vegetables and avoid the bread and dessert areas. Buffets are often full of high fat foods and it can be difficult to control portion sizes when visiting one.
Eat your meals on a 9-inch dinner plate. Most people use plates that are too big. Consider using a child-sized plate to ensure you are not filling your plate with portions that are too big. A healthy dinner that includes a large serving of vegetables should fit on a 9-inch plate. If your meals are too big to use one 9-inch plate you’re eating too much!
If you feel like you are hungry in between meals you should try doing something to take your mind off of it. Food cravings do not tend to last for that long. If you find it is not going away then you should try munching on fresh fruits or veggies.
To lose excess weight, you should exercise four to six days per week. While aerobic exercise, such as walking, increases metabolism, resistance exercise, such as lifting weights, increases muscle mass. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn. So, a mix of the two will maximize your weight loss efforts.
Avoid multitasking while eating. Don’t eat meals in the car or snack while watching TV or reading the paper. Instead, eat at a table and focus on the food you’re consuming. If you eat while you’re distracted, you probably won’t notice when you start to feel full, making it more likely that you will over-eat.
Stand up while you are on the phone. Every little bit helps. Next time the phone rings, don’t just sit there while you talk. Stand up and pace around. Many people are capable of talking on the phone for long periods of time. If you talk for half an hour, that’s thirty minutes worth of walking you’ve just accomplished.
