General points
At the Haynes Clinic we aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible while getting you well. Our accommodation is comfortable and well appointed – everyone has their own bedroom and some rooms have en suite facilities (these are subject to additional charge). Our two houses have pleasant sitting rooms with television which you can watch in your free time.
All meals are provided. Our fees also cover a consultation with our doctor and psychiatrist and all medication you will require for your detox., if you need one. Your detox will be prescribed by our doctor soon after you arrive, our aim being to get you off alcohol / drugs as safely and as comfortably as possible. Your detox will usually take 10 – 14 days, although in certain circumstances it may be over a shorter or longer period.
We have membership of an exclusive private health club which you go to about twice a week. This includes a state of the art gymnasium, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna.
Visits are allowed after your first week with us on a Sunday between 1 and 5pm. If you have a visit, you go out with your visitors; when you return you may be breathalysed / drug tested. Any drinking or using during your stay with us will lead to immediate discharge.
You may bring your mobile phone and laptop with you but during your first week you will not have access to these. From the second week onwards you will have your mobile / laptop when not in therapy.
On arrival at the clinic your bags will be checked to ensure there is nothing in them that could affect your recovery while with us (this includes alcohol and drugs). We will also take any prescription medication and your credit cards / cash into safe keeping. You have access to your cash as and when required while at the clinic – including when you are taken out shopping (you are taken supervised to a local town shopping once a week) and on a daily basis if you need to buy any personal items (including cigarettes).
Smoking is permitted in designated outside areas at the clinic and at the house.
The daily routine
Monday – Friday you will be based at our treatment centre. You are brought from the house to arrive at around 9.30 – 9.45 am. The programme starts at 10 and the structure of each day is as follows:
Daily reflections – a reading followed by discussion on what the reading means personally for you and your fellow clients
Process group – your group to discuss anything that matters to you, in confidence, with your peers and the counsellor(s)
LUNCH
Step work – if a client has completed an assignment, this may be presented to the group for feedback
Workshop on a topic such as denial, anger etc.
Once a week there is community group to discuss issues around living with your fellow clients and once a week there is goals group, when you agree a weekly personal target with the counsellors
Everyone is evaluated by their fellow clients (peer evaluation) and has a graduation on completion of the programme
You may also have one to one counselling, and during your stay you may participate in a family conference if this is helpful for you and your family
At the end of the day (around 5) you return to the house to have dinner. Monday, Thursday and Friday evening you will attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting (you also go to Narcotics Anonymous (NA) on Tuesday lunchtime and NA/AA on a Saturday evening).
Tuesday afternoon you are free to shop (accompanied) or go to the health club.
Saturday – you are based at the house (one of the two Haynes Clinic houses). The morning is for free time, doing personal chores, or doing an assignment set by your counsellor. After lunch you will be taken shopping or to the health club. Early evening you attend an NA / AA meeting before returning to the house for personal time – or once a month we take everyone out for a meal where you learn how you can relax, laugh and enjoy yourself without having a drink or drug.
Sunday morning you have free time; the afternoon is for family visits or shopping / health club. Everyone is back at the house soon after 5 for a meal and relaxing evening prior to a new week.
What to pack
You should bring clothing to be comfortable for the length of your stay. There is a washing machine which you can use when required.
Even if you do not think you will be using the pool at the health club, it is worth bringing swimming things with you so you can at least use the Jacuzzi or sauna if you feel like it during your stay. If you are likely to want to use the gym, bring trainers / jogging bottoms.
You should bring any medication you are taking. This will be assessed by our doctor.
The only money you need is for personal items e.g. newspapers, cigarettes.
You do not need to bring towels or any linen with you.
Aftercare
We are here to support all our clients once they return home. We offer a free day’s counselling every Friday for up to a year after you leave us. You can get all the support you need and meet up with the friends you make when in treatment. You can also keep in touch with us by telephone at any time and we will give you any support you need.

Be aware that you are depressed. If you know that you are depressed and acknowledge it, you are less likely to beat yourself up over what you think you are doing wrong. Simply knowing that you are feeling depressed is sometimes enough to make you feel just a little bit better.

Shut off your TV! Many people become depressed from sitting in front of the television for hours on end. You are watching lies over and over, and if you start comparing your life to what you are watching, you are sure to become depressed. Even too much news can lead to depression.

If you are struggling with depression try not to get yourself caught up in the destructive mindset that the world is out to get you. This will only make you despair more and can do nothing but make your depression even worse and deeper than it was in the first place.

Even if you are regularly taking medication, you should also be sure to regularly have therapy. Talking to a trained professional will be able to help you understand your own thoughts and actions much better than just thinking can do. Friends are not a replacement for a counselor, no matter how well meaning.

Depression is a chronic mood disorder, and thus it’s hard to find a lot of medical professionals who put much credence in it. As a depression sufferer; however, you know just how real it all is. Remember to use what you’ve read here to begin traveling on your road to recovery.

Marijuana, cannabis, chronic, dope, ganja, grass, mary jane, pot or whatever people may call it, is a non-synthetic substance that comes from the plant cannabis sativa and cannabis indica. Its colors and characteristics vary depending where it is grown but its common hue is green. In the late 1800s the use and sale of Marijuana were regulated by a number of states and local governments in America. In 1906, several states controlled the drug by labeling it as a poison. By the 1920s, prohibition of the drug was entered in the constitution, and it was then repealed in the 1930s. Ever since, marijuana use continued to be illegal in the United States.

The marijuana plant is intended as a psychoactive drug. Our ancestors use them as a recreational drug and they use it for religious rituals as well. The use of marijuana is comparable to any other addictions such as alcohol abuse, cigarette, heroin and other drug exploitations. They have negative effects on man’s health. Common side effects includes memory loss, slow learning, lack of concentration, loss of coordination, paranoia, emotional instabilities, poor perception or judgment.

Many people who are addicted to marijuana are hooked to its psychoactive effects due to the substance called THC or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the primary active component of marijuana. This substance is known to have a stimulant, depressant or hallucinogen effect. THC allows the brain to release its dopamine, a substance commonly known as pleasure chemical, giving the user a euphoric high. Euphoric sense is the main reason why people are getting hooked-up with marijuana.

Marijuana addiction is considered as a disease in many societies. Several groups considered marijuana users as outcasts. Thus, it lowers their confidence and morale towards self. Symptoms of addiction are loss of control over the drug and helplessness to quit regardless of the efforts exerted. Alongside with these symptoms, a strong urge of smoking marijuana is very common to the marijuana addicts. Whenever they failed to smoke, they feel depressed, anxious, unable to focus on other things and easily get angered.

According to research, treating marijuana addiction is not easy. Experts believe that there are no distinct medication to treat this kind of addiction. Treatment is the combination of detoxification, awareness on the bad effects of marijuana to the body, support of friends, families and loved-ones.

Detoxification – Experts believe that detoxification is the key therapy to treat chronic users of marijuana. Detoxification usually includes healthy diet, regular exercise, increase water intake and for some, detox pills. The detox program is directed at the physical effects of marijuana. Rehabilitation on the other hand, is a long-range goal so that the abuser will be completely free of the substance. The target of the program is lifestyle modifications.

Awareness – Many users are unaware of the bad effects of the marijuana to their physical, psychological and social being. Gaining knowledge on the harmful effects of marijuana can help chronic users to abstain from marijuana.

Moral support – As mentioned earlier, one reason why chronic users are having difficulty of quitting the drug and why relapses occur, is the lack of support from the people that surround them. Users need understanding, love, patience and special attention. Understanding will greatly help them in quitting the drug.

Marijuana addiction truly affects many people in different walks of life. Though marijuana use is illegal in the United States, it continues to be the most abused illicit drug in the most powerful country in the world. Aside from America, marijuana has been banned in many countries because of its various negative effects on man. In spite the prohibition, the abusers continue to grow. It is significant not to eliminate the importance of information dissemination about marijuana and other drugs so that people will not have to use it out of curiosity.
