There is a reason why fashion designers choose to produce their goods in Italy. With a history of superior workmanship Italy has proven time and again that they understand a garment. This article takes a personal note as I write about my personal experience and the warmth I get from a “Made in Italy” decal.

It was the summer of 1986. In just a few weeks I would start a new stage in my life. The anticipation was both dreadful and exhilarating. I would start junior high school. But, for that week I had escaped the clutches of anticipation. My grandparents had taken me on holiday.

This had been our vacation ritual for a few years. My grandfather competed in golf tournaments occasionally. He was quite good and we often came home with a trophy or two. So, my grandparents planned our vacation to coincide with the tournaments. For a few years, I would attend some of the tournament with him. I held the honor as his golf cart chauffeur. Meanwhile, my grandmother would shop. This did not appeal to me as a tomboy. I had no desire to try on ridiculous outfits and prance around in front of wide mirrors.

But, this holiday was different. I can’t recall if I had been given the choice, but I found myself moving through store after store alongside my grandmother. My grandfather zoomed around the golf course without me. Perhaps, it was the general excitement at having won me over or perhaps my grandmother had always gotten that excited about shopping. Whatever it was that tinged our day with an extra layer of happiness I was sold on the whole idea of shopping for sport.

My aunt Laura directed us to a row of boutiques. It was there in a small store that I completely fell in-love with shoes. My only criteria for shoes up to this point were that they stay on my feet while I outran the boys. But, from the moment we entered the shop I was smitten. It was the smell that grabbed me first. A delicate, yet very present scent wafted over us when the air from the outside world met with the air of this new, more pleasant atmosphere. Unlike, the bright and busy stores full of t-shirt wearing, Slurpee sipping patrons and their loud, sticky looking children; this place had no children and not a single t-shirt in sight. Refined looking ladies greeted us and I understood why my aunt wanted me to tuck my shirt in before we got inside. I stood up straighter and brushed my hair away from my eyes. My grandmother smiled at this. She knew I was nervous too, so she took my hand and led me through this mysterious place.

At first, everything seemed stuffy and old-lady like. Finally, the sales woman handed me a pair of golden tan shoes with the smallest heel. I’d never had heels. They slipped them on my feet and the fit was amazing. I walked a little wobbly walk towards the mirror. All the ladies praised them and praised my slender legs. I sat down and slipped them off into my hands. They felt unlike any I’d seen before. The sales woman announced proudly, “Those are Italian.” The ladies ooohhhed and aaahhhed. I ran my hands over the soft leather and looked up into eager eyes. I asked, “Why do they feel so different?” The saleswoman explained Italian leather. But then, my grandmother pointed to them and said, “It’s in the stitching. That’s how you know the quality. The details matter.”

Those shoes greatly influenced all my future shoe decisions. Not often have I been able to purchase fine Italian shoes. But, there is no doubt in my mind that none could ever equal the quality of “Made in Italy.” With great sentiment I find that I can offer them in my own online boutique. Because my boutique is online I cannot offer the luxurious scent of such perfection to my customers. However, I can offer the advice, “Details matter. Our lives are woven and stitched together as that of the finest Italian couture. Thus, we should never cease praising the maker.”

Boutique sounds like such an antiquated word in our mass consumerism society. This article serves to examine the concept between boutique shopping and making fashion purchases through chain stores. Is having “Your boutique” a thing of the past. Can boutiques survive online?

I hate to write anything and start with a definition, but it’s actually necessary in this case. Most people can readily identify the mall, chain stores, and online shopping sites, but what is a boutique? Wikipedia (yes, OMG I’m using Wikipedia as a source), Wikipedia defines a boutique as, “one that specializes in elite and fashionable items such as clothing and jewelry.” The key word being “elite” I suppose. However, I’ve perused many boutiques to find that they are often quite reasonably priced. So, what makes it “elite?”

A store stocks merchandise for consumers to purchase. A boutique cultivates style for clients. That’s the difference. When you go into Barney’s or Macy’s the selection is no doubt wide-ranging. If you know your personal style and know exactly what you want then it’s a great way to find it; whereas, a boutique generally offers clients a personalized line of fashion. Boutiques serve as your own personal stylist. Does this mean it’s targeted at just the wealthy? Not necessarily.

Similar to almost every other type of business boutiques are making it on the internet. This minimizes costs, which decreases investment, which generally leads to the customer benefits from more affordable prices . In researching this topic I examined a number of web based boutiques to discover that indeed , indeed , price ranges are less than what I might have expected to see in the market beside the bistro. On the other hand , have the “elite” features extended over the internet?

FP for Fifth offers designer clothing at deep discounts and features new designers with amazing promotions. This incredible site combines the best of shopping and fashion news. At www.fpforfifth.net you can shop The Boutique, but hang out on The Playground at www.fpforfifth.com and you can pick up advice, gossip, tips and all things fashion fun. This is what makes for a unique experience. It’s not just a store, but a personal styling experience.

This site provides clients with the perks expected in a brick & mortar store. From complimentary personal shopping, featured designers, style and trend information to the even affordable options of buying pre-loved designer goods. FP for Fifth encompasses boutique shopping with modern e-commerce.

Socially engaged through a variety social media outlets, FP for Fifth also interacts with international clients in fun and exciting ways. Find them on Polyvore, Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter and interact directly.
