If you don’t know most curling irons get to well over 200 degrees Fahrenheit, more than hot enough to burn the skin of a child who may touch the device on accident. After years of leaving her burning hot iron on the kitchen counter I finally said enough is enough when one of my sons was nearly burned.
Curling Irons scare me as the father of two small children who love to run around the house and grab everything in reach. They reach temperatures of well over 200 degrees (more than hot enough to burn adult flesh) and are often left around the house carelessly.

We had a couple close calls in our home as my wife constantly left her iron out on top of the kitchen sink after finishing with her hair. I wanted to yell at her for doing it but what other option did she really have. It is sad how common it is to leave a hot iron out on the counter today. A week later my son pulled the iron down off the counter, it burnt his arm (not too badly luckily) and the bathroom floor got the worst of it leaving me with a flooring project in the near future.

That’s when I said enough is enough. I made her keep that iron locked away until I saw the Cool Care holder made specifically for irons. It was being talked about on the local news station and I thought it looked like a great idea so I looked up the site and ordered one.

The whole concept behind the device is brilliantly simple. You get two stainless steel tubes that are mounted on top of a circular loop base. There is also a mountable version of the product, but I was satisfied with the table top version of the product.

The tubes have slim vents throughout them to allow heat to pass very quickly. There is a small tube and a large tube and my wife’s iron fit the large tube comfortably. While it is nice not having to worry about the iron damaging your counter tops it also saves room on counters. Instead of laying down your hot iron will be held almost vertically. If you place it at the back of your counter only larger children should be able to gain access to it.

The most valuable part of the product is that the cord coils up very nicely within the bottom of the base. With it coiled there is no risk of a child grabbing it and creating a situation like the one I had at my house. The Cool Care iron holder earned the Parent Test Parent Approved award and I can safely say that it is the quickest way to improve the safety of your home if there is someone who likes to use an iron.

As most people probably know toddlers love to touch just about anything. Normally we are pretty good about keeping Ryan away from anything dangerous. We have the cupboards locked up and any real hazards gated away, but my wife left the iron on the counter with the cord dangling down. Ryan pulled the iron down by the cord, burned his arm, and burnt a hole in the linoleum of the bathroom. He wasn’t seriously hurt but it was enough for me to condemn the iron for good. The Cool Care iron holder is a pretty simple device, but it is a great way to safe proof your bathroom and keeps your little ones safe. It is basically two vented stainless steel tubes mounted on a thin circular base. When you finish ironing your hair you simply put the hot end of the iron into the tube that it fits in and set the cord within the base.

Not only does it provide a place for your hot iron that will keep it up off the bathroom counter and out of reach of little ones, but it also helps contain the cord of the iron which is often the real danger.

The Cool Care comes with two different sized holders for both large and small flat irons and it really is a really well thought out product. The stainless steel holder is thin and well vented allowing irons to cool down quickly. It is well balanced and hard to knock over and since the irons are going to be sitting nearly vertical in the holder they take up less counter space as well.

If you would rather keep your iron off counters and table tops altogether there is a wall mounted version that is pretty easy to put in place. I opted for the mountable version to make sure my children were never at risk again. Putting it up was as simple as screwing in two mounting screws and it took around 10 minutes to have it set in place exactly where I wanted it. Of course it is always a good idea to make sure you are screwing into a stud.

While the concept behind the Cool Care iron holder is pretty simple it is very well done and one of the best options on the market today. It has received the award seal from Parent Tested Parent Approved and I couldn’t agree with it more. I no longer have to worry about the house burning down or my little ones getting burned after my wife gets ready to go out for the day.
