Anxious to increase my product sales, I went ahead and got started on Twitter marketing to create a huge list of followers hoping to turn them into buyers. I ended up purchasing and joining programs that would get me followers and programs that would actually advertise my products for me. In all, I think I bought about 8 software programs to help with my Twitter marketing adventure.

The first program I purchased allowed me to automatically follow people in the hopes that they would then return the favor and follow me. And then there was the software that would un-follow people who were not following me. Removing non-followers meant I could concentrate on other people who might be swayed to follow me. Amongst other Twitter marketing tools I got hold of, there was one tool which automatically tweeted a blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog. And when I started using all of these tools the results seemed to be amazing since they all did just what they said they would do. I was rapidly brought down to earth when I checked my spreadsheet and found that I wasn’t actually making any money! Each day I would post roughly ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter too. Then I discovered a way to have all the blog posts done for me automatically, hoping that the more posts I would have the more folks who would see them.

Well, the following are my results: Utilizing this strategy over three years led to about 10,000 people following me on Twitter. And although you may think that is great, there’s more. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on at least 15,000 posts in my Twitter account. Besides that, I did no additional promotion for that blog, as a matter of fact I didn’t even ping the new blog entries to see how good Twitter was could be. Well I found, in the last 3 years I pulled in 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I generated $8.52 with Adsense. And that particular blog only receives about 2 to 4 visitors each day from Twitter.

Even with nearly 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not sufficient to pull in money marketing with Twitter. The bottom line is that the money I’ve generated is not sufficient to cover the cost of the Twitter software I bought to start with. There may be other effective ways of promoting on Twitter, but from my experience, using automatic software tools is not one of them.
