If you are camping with others, ensure that there is something available to keep everyone entertained. There is nothing worse than a bored campmate, as they will constantly pester you for activities. Talk to your family and friends before hand and make sure they know how to entertain themselves for the trip.

A great way to make new friends when you are camping is to share. For the most part, campers are very social and friendly people. If you have extra fire starters or food, sharing them is a great way to get to know your neighbors and make some friends as well.

Any time you go camping, do not forget to bring a first aid kit along with you. Since accidents can happen at any time, a first aid kit is a very valuable asset to have readily available. Be sure to include topical creams for bug bites, sun burns and poison ivy when putting your kit together.

In this modern age, there is no excuse for being in the woods without some form of communication ability. Of course, no one likes to receive phone calls when they are relaxing, so leave your phone off but fully charged, just in case there is an emergency and you need to contact someone.

When camping, an insulated air mattress is useful for more than just comfort. An insulated mattress with a waterproof bottom can also keep you dry and warm in inclement weather. If the bottom of your tent is wet or cold, then you can still sleep comfortably above the elements. Many good air mattresses come with loops that enable you to tie multiple units together for cozy sleep quarters for two.

If you have a young child with you, do the math in advance with respect to how much baby food or formula they will need. Make sure you have supplies for them that will last the entire length of your trip. There are no guarantees that a store near your campsite will have these items or will have the type of items that you want.

When you are heading out for that long awaited camping trip, don’t forget to take along your cell phone. You may be tempted to leave all the texting and calls behind, but your cell phone can be one of your most important safety lifelines in the event of an emergency. Make sure it is fully charged and keep it protected from the elements in a plastic bag or waterproof case.

When traveling to your camping destination, plan on stopping and having a meal when you’re near the campground, but before you actually arrive. Being well fed before arriving will ease frustrations if the campground is full, or if it takes longer to get your gear set up. Use this break to discuss your plans and to remind everyone of how to remain safe!

Sun protection is vital for camping, especially if you’re on a beach. The sun rays are much stronger off of the shore. Even if it looks cloudy, the UV rays may still be strong enough to cause skin damage. Keep yourself safe from the sun. Apply a good sunscreen, wear appropriate footwear, wear sunglasses, and wear hats.

If you are an intermediate or advanced camper and what to add some challenge back into the hobby, then look into backpacking. This is a type of camping where you are able to pick up your entire camp ground and put it all into one back pack and then continue walking.

When you are going camping, do your best to get as early of a start as possible. It will be your job to pitch your tent so you have somewhere to rest comfortably, and that will be much harder for you to do once it starts to get dark outside.

Keep an eye on the weather. Rain or other conditions may impact your travel time and your experience at the campsite. Make sure that you have gear that is appropriate for the weather conditions that you may face. Adjust your departure time as necessary to try and avoid the bulk of the bad weather, if possible.

Always carry a first-aid kit with you while camping. It should include bandages, antibiotic ointment, wrappable bandages for sprains and strains, and peroxide or alcohol for cleaning wounds. Scissors, tweezers and other small tools can be used to remove splinters or ticks. Antacids, over-the-counter pain medicines, and allergy medicines should also be included.

Having an item that provides illumination is very useful for a camping trip. Bring a flashlight is crucial. Since the batteries can run out at any time, you should pack some extra ones in an airtight container. You may also want to carry a small LED torch and a flare gun to be prepared for any dark situations.

You and your family are in for many good times ahead. Once you take the whole family out to go camping it will make you want to go camping all the time. This is a good thing for you guys, because the outdoors is always a good experience to live through.
