How You Can Be Better At Time Management Techniques

Apr 12, 2012 by cindychan169

Everyone wants to get more done every day. With only 24 hours in each day, we never seem to have enough hours to do all that we wish to do. It’s human nature to put the blame for our inability to accomplish our daily tasks on the acts and interference of others. Improving your time management abilities is a much better, and more realistic, conclusion. Some folks don’t think it’s possible to develop better time management skills, but this isn’t true. Our focus in this report is to give you some ideas on how you can become more efficient managing your time.

One of the first improvements you can make to your time management procedure is to take a big task, or goal, and break it down into smaller steps. Take your major project and make it a series of smaller tasks that are faster to complete and easier to handle. There are a couple of reasons to do this. A small goal gets finished faster and easier than one big massive goal. Whether it’s a big goal that has finally reached completion, or one step towards a big project, the completion of any goal, or step, on your schedule gives you a good feeling. Most importantly, when you break down your big projects into smaller projects, they won’t seem so daunting and you’ll have a much easier time sticking to them. List out all your goals and the important things in your life that you want to do. You can type them into your computer if you prefer but actually writing them down longhand on paper is better. Writing by longhand makes the list more memorable. This is also a convenient way to remind yourself if you start to drift away from the task at hand. You can simply stick the list on your refrigerator with a magnet and review it from time to time. Research has shown that handwriting triggers a different part of our brain which gives what we’re writing more importance and makes it easier to remember. It also puts our brains in gear to make sure we accomplish what we’ve handwritten. Writing each word on paper gives the words a depth they don’t have when you tap them out on your keyboard.

Rewards give you something to aim for. If you’ve done a good job at finishing something on (or ahead of) schedule, don’t just take on the next project. Once in a while, when you finish early, take the rest of the day off! Such a reward will help you to focus, and this can increase your efficiency.

A reward system only works, of course, if you make yourself really earn the reward. Rewards must be balanced with hard work so that you’re properly motivated. Still, it’s okay to treat yourself -sometimes literally for having done a job well. It worked when you were a little kid, there isn’t any reason it won’t work now.

Managing your time is not so difficult as you begin to discover all the little steps you can take to make your day go smoother. We sincerely hope the tips we’ve given you in this report will pique your curiosity about other ways you can manage your time. There are numerous websites and blogs dedicated to helping you develop a better time management system if you will just take the time to do a little research. Simply keep working on it!
