Cholesterol build up can clog up the blood vessels causing heart attack and stroke. For most of us, our body’s capacity to dissolve fats diminishes as we age. Some may need medications, others lifestyle changes may be good enough. Check out these tips that support cut down your blood cholesterol level.

Control your cannibalistic impulse. Eat meat every now and then or simply convert to vegetarianism which is becoming like a religion to some people. If you can’t, eat lean meat, take off the skin (which is actually the yummy part) or simply cut down the serving portion.

Resort to skim milk which currently assumes many tags like low fat milk, ultra skim milk, blah blah blah.

Go for reduced fat snacks. Hanging out in fast food chains won’t help.

Watch out for saturated fat when cooking. Palm and coconut oil top the record of those with somewhat high saturated fats. Choose canola, sunflower, safflower, corn, soybean, olive, and peanut oils. Use oil rather than butter or margarine. Nonstick pan is surprising because it does not require any cooking oil. Broil, stew, steam, bake, roast INSTEAD of frying.

Eat no more than 4 eggs a week. Avoid organ meats like liver, kidneys, intestines, brain, etc.

Consume more high fiber and complex carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables and oats.

Go nuts. I mean go for nuts.

Go fishing and eat your catch. Fatty acids derived from fish like omega 3 and omega 6 are good for the heart.

Less salt reduces blood pressure. Hypertension is a tremendous risk factor for heart disease.

Drink alcohol in sobriety, not in order to get intoxicated by alcohol per se.

If nothing works after trying all of the above, it may be time to take medications like Lipitor. Unfortunately you are required to take this medication for life once you have started it. Note the possible side effects you may experience along the way. If you want you can check out natural medications like Hypercet Cholesterol Formula. This may work for some.
