Merriscourt
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds on the borders of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, Merriscourt is an elegant and exclusive choice of venue for the perfect country weddings in a stylish rural setting.
Dating back to the 15th century, historic Merriscourt boasts a stunning Cotswold stone and gravelled courtyard that provides a fine welcome. Its unique layout, with seating for up to 132, allows you and your guests to make the most of your special day. Two airy interconnected barns create a wonderful sense of space and light: the Civil Wedding Ceremony/Civil Partnership is conducted in the Stone Barn, and guests can then move on to the Gallery for a champagne and canap? reception. The lime-washed White Barn allows the wedding celebrations to progress smoothly and seamlessly from dinner to dancing.
Accomodation for the bride and groom is available in a traditional Cotswold ‘Bothy’ at Merriscourt, with breathtaking views towards Burford. A comprehensive list of local guest accommodation can also be provided, all within minutes of Merriscourt at Kingham, Chipping Norton, Burford and The Wychwoods.
Our in-house chefs select the very best of locally-sourced seasonal produce to ensure a delicious menu to meet all tastes. Merriscourt provides a comprehensive wine list, and there is also an option to bring your own wine.
Charlbury and Kingham Stations, with direct lines to London Paddington (approximately 70 minutes away), are within seven minutes of Merriscourt. Our staff are available to arrange transport for you and your guests throughout the day.
Your Venue
The Stone Barn
As the venue for your Civil Wedding Ceremony, this beautiful barn constructed from genuine Cotswold stone seats up to 132 people, and transforms into the perfect space for guests to dance after dinner. Large double barn doors, and doors that open out onto the beautiful courtyard mean that on warm summer days and evenings, we can bring the outside in for your wedding. The Stone Barn is flexible enough to provide additional dining tables for guests, whilst keeping everyone right at the heart of the celebrations.
The Gallery
After your Civil Wedding Ceremony/Civil Partnership in the Stone Barn, the celebration moves into the Gallery for a champagne reception. Large doors opening onto the Courtyard allow guests to mingle under the trees and relax on the oak benches. The doors at the end of the Gallery look out onto the stunning Cotswold countryside, providing an ideal backdrop for your wedding photographs.
The White Barn
The White Barn is everything a banqueting hall should be. Soaring uplit beams and lofty ceilings provide a traditional dining area with a sense of gentle grandeur, yet it still feels intimate enough to allow you and your guests to enjoy the day’s proceedings.
The Courtyard
Featuring a plethora of plants and shrubs including wisteria, garden roses, jasmine, vines and lavender, the Courtyard is a natural focal point that offers access from both barns and The Gallery. This creates the perfect setting for a summer champagne reception for you and your guests, and is beautifully lit in the evening to create a very special romantic atmosphere.
