Murray Head – Musician and Actor
In the world of entertainment, there are very few individuals who have achieved stardom, fame and recognition both in the performing arts such as acting and in the musical world such as being singers, music producers or talented musicians. Such is the rare case of Murray Head, the British actor and singer who achieved an excellent level of worldwide recognition in both his contributions to the performing arts through a small but very significant filmography as an actor and as a recording musician with over 16 studio albums with numerous collaborations and performances throughout the entire lifespan of his career.
The very first performance of Murray Head that launched him to his acting career was when he appeared in very minor roles in his father’s documentaries at the age of 7. He became very involved in many acting activities throughout his childhood, which consisted of child castings for documentaries, commercials and plays. At the age of 12, he started to appear in a series of radio plays and he continued with many other short term projects throughout his adolescence.
Murray Head made his first acting debut in the film The Family Way which was released in 1966 and consisted of a comedy-drama film based on a series of plays titled Honeymoon Postponed. Murray took a minor yet significant role within the film as a character named Geoffrey Fitton. Murray’s third single Some Day Soon was also featured in this film. The Family Way was very positively received throughout Great Britain and Europe and still remains a classic of Murray Head’s main films as one that pioneered him to the entrance of the acting world.
On the other hand, in the late 1960′s Murray Head’s musical and acting career were still initiating and he found himself constantly challenged with many demands and hardships in order to establish himself as a potential actor and recording artist. With his career failing to take its initial course, he dropped out of his recording contracts and focused on selling insurance policies in order to get by throughout this difficult time period of his life. Andre Lloyd Webber, a British music producer, who invited him to sing the role of “Judas” in the soundtrack to their musical “Jesus Christ Superstar”, eventually contacted him.
