The Increasing Popularity of Investing In Diamonds
In times of economic turmoil and uncertainty, such as the state of several of the world economies today, many people turn to precious metals such as gold, or platinum, or to rare stones and jewels including diamonds, sapphires and rubys. Throughout history, these precious metals and stones have always been highly sort after, and have retained their value, even when company shares and property have not. With share prices tumbling and property prices dropping, many people are now choosing to invest in loose diamonds as a way of protecting their wealth.
There are two distinctive categories of diamonds, the first are the jewelery manufactures, or artisans, who purchase larger quantities of small, diamonds from which to create their jewelery. Often these small, loose diamonds are purchased in bulk and are of lower grade than required for a central set diamond piece. These smaller diamond chippings often become cluster rings or other items of decorative jewelery such as watches and diamond earings. When purchasing these items you are not just buying diamonds. Although the price you pay will reflect the quality of the diamonds used in the manufacture of that particular item of jewelery, you will also be paying for the metal used to set the piece, as well as the artisans time, along with the shops profit margin.
One of the biggest advantages of buying loose diamonds is that you pay only what the diamond is worth. Purchasing loose diamonds is the best way to ensure that the money you spend is solely for a quality diamond, and not, for other added extras incurred in setting the diamond into a ring, or other item of jewelery. If you are considering investing in diamonds as a way of protecting your assets and investments, you need to consider four major points that ultimately decide the value of any precious stone.
These four clarifications, or 4C’s as they are known amongst the diamond trade, are; Clarity, the most important, and one that affects the value the most. Cut, the number of facets, or faces which the diamond has been cut to. Colour, the overall look of a diamond may not only be clear, often they they coloured pink, blue, and even black. Carat, this refers to the weight of the diamond involved, and usually ranges from one carat, to around three Carats for a large, top quality diamond.
Each of these 4C’s is covered by the certificate of authenticity which all diamonds have. If someone is offering you a diamond without this certificate then beware. All insurance companies will ask for it should the need for a claim arise, and without it you may find compensation a little hard to achieve. Buying diamonds can become habitual, but at least you are investing your money wisely, and not spending it on the latest fashion accessairy.
