The physical appearance of the two is also very different from one another. HDMI again is ahead compared to DVI in this aspect. HDMI looks more like an USB cable which is sleek and a lot easier to hook up whilst DVI is large with several pins at one end. Now, HDMI surely is more convenient to use than DVI but they have one thing in common, though they can be used to have long runs like wall installations you must get the kind of HDMI and DVI that are thicker so it can efficiently transfer signal without signal loss.

Another thing about HDMI is its backward compatibility. It means the recent version of HDMI can still work with lower or older version. In addition HDMI can still work with a DVI it only need a cable which has a DVI end and a HDMI on the other end. This can work with no need of any converters. Now this is why HDMI is more convenient than DVI.

HDMI indeed outshines DVI. Data transmission with HDMI is much quicker as compared to DVI and it already sends out both audio and video signals whereas DVI is only for video. Though the quality of resolution is not so far but still HDMI is one step ahead of DVI. With this HDMI can surely support future technologies and can be used for some time.
