Fifty Shades of Grey – BDSM comes back to Hollywood

Selling more than one hundred thousand copies in its initial week on the market “Fifty Shades Of Grey”, a novel heavy in bondage and domination literally took over the world of readers. It was written by English author E.L. James and outline how a relationship develops between a na?ve college student and a billionaire.

The achievements of the novel has changed the way in which the world of erotica and the use of BDSM is viewed. It has even led to the revelation by many people that they do indulge in some activities to keep things fresh and new in their relationship.

Movies with a BDSM theme like “50 Shades Of Grey” basically offer two things, something to watch while engaging in some individual sexual experience or a statement of acceptance by others of that particular culture.

Fifty Shades Of Grey” shows a girl who knows nothing about sex much less the world of BDSM becoming intereted in it and having to make the decision of whether or not she will participate in it.

In the world of film, the depictions of the acts of BDSM can be graphic, campy, arty, bordering on the absurd or just simply all steamy and hot. Whatever the case they are all memorable. A few movies are noteworthy when it comes to erotica and they are highlighted below.

In 1975 “The Story Of O’ came out. It was based on a novel by Pauline R?age and some even deem the film to be better than the book itself. In this a woman learns about commitment and love through acts of BDSM.

Another significant film that came out in 1986 is “Blue Velvet”. A list actors like Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper and Kyle Maclachlan share the spotlight. In this film Isabella is the one that enjoys to be hurt during sex. She leaves nothing to the imagination.

Another 1986 BDSM classic is “9 ? Weeks”. With a cast headed By Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke we see how two strangers have sexual encounters. The female character gets involved with a total stranger, a male dom who introduces her to a number of sex games over the span of 9 ? weeks.

The movie of the year for 2007 is ‘Black Snake Moan”. In this flick a man tries to save a girl who knows nothing but mistreatment.

Another BDSM movie of the year “Secretary” came out in 2002. It depicts a recently released mental patient now secretary (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) who wants someone to control her and her boss, an attorney (played by James Spader) who is looking to get someone to control. The film depicts the sadomasochistic aspects of a BDSM relationship.

Will Fifty Shades Of Grey be the next BDSM movie hit? Possibly. It has just been picked up by a major film studio with an eye to go into production as soon as possible.
